Purpose of the Club: Art club provides creative students with an opportunity to share their artistic interests with like-minded members. 

Current Activities: Art club participates in the Empty Bowl project where students create ceramic bowls that are donated the Empty Bowls project. The bowls are then auctioned off to raise money to feed the homeless.

Other Information: Art club also has an annual show and sale where they donate a portion of their proceeds to a local non-profit organization. We also meet once a month to create art during FLEX. Students also share artwork that they are creating via Google Classroom. This is an open forum for students to share and encourage each other through the creative process.

We also travel to the Crystal Bridges Museum of Art in Bentonville, AR.

We also hope to meet as a group to see Final Friday art exhibitions this year.

Membership Requirements: Enrolled in a FACS class during the school year (or have taken the class previously, as our course options are limited)

Purpose of the Club: To encourage additional learning on FACS related topics outside of the classroom while promoting communication, leadership, organizational, and relationship-building skills. We take projects and compete with 100's of schools around Kansas and if we make it, Nationals in the summer.

Current Activities:  We are organizing our members into STAR events to compete at district at the beginning of February. If we place in the top spot, we'll move on to State in April. We will focus on fundraising during the spring semester to help with project costs and Nationals expenses for students who place in the top two at State.

Membership Requirements: Any Maize South student who is interested in mathematics, is curious about numbers, patterns, and shapes, and participates in club activities may be a member of the Math Club. Membership in Mu Alpha Theta, the national high school and two-year college mathematics honor society, is limited to students who have completed, or are currently enrolled in, Algebra 3 and have actively participated in Math Club activities for at least one year.

Purpose of the Club: We are dedicated to promoting scholarships in mathematics and establishing math as an integral part of high school and junior college education.
Current Activities: Competing in annual contests at Emporia State, Fort Hays State, Pitt State, among others; celebrating International Talk Like a Pi-rate Day, e Day, Pi Day and more; promoting the love and tolerance of mathematics throughout the cosmos; and learning about careers that use math.

Membership Requirements: The Maize South High School chapter of the NHS requires a cumulative 3.75 grade-point average (GPA); regular, documented community-service hours; and committed participation in multiple school groups. Juniors and seniors who meet the GPA requirement receive an invitation in the fall semester following Term 1 grade reports.

Purpose of Organization: The National Honor Society is the first nation-wide organization of its kind. Founded in 1921 by the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), it honors and encourages students who excel in the four pillars of the NHS: service, leadership, character, and scholarship. Our chapter aims to elevate these ideals at Maize South, to give rising students a positive peer group during their high-school experience, and to prepare them to apply competitively for college scholarships and admissions.

Current Activities: As a group, NHS members support peer tutoring programs, American Red Cross blood drives, voter registration, and driver safety. Additionally, individual members volunteer with dozens of community groups and local events, including the Maize Education Foundation. If you are seeking volunteers for a local event, please reach out to us.

Membership Requirements: Purchase a membership and receive a free t-shirt and a stamp for their student ID's which allows them access to all Maize District regular season sponsored home athletic events. 

Purpose of the Club: Help get students to the games to support and cheer on their Mavericks! We also help plan pep assemblies and make posters to support our Mavericks sports teams! Members also are eligible for special events hosted by the officers and sponsors throughout the year, including pizza parties, and prizes at the games.
